Western Alliance Bank announced on June 22nd that Matthew Leivian has joined as senior managing director of the Institutional Commercial Real Estate Finance team, based in Phoenix, as the bank continues to expand its national CRE lending platform.
Leivian will lead a Phoenix-based team focused on building and growing a high-quality institutional loan portfolio. He will originate and structure construction, acquisition, bridge and mini-permanent financing for commercial real estate clients nationwide.
“With more than two decades of banking experience and deep roots in commercial real estate lending, Matt strengthens our ability to serve institutional clients and grow this business with discipline,” said Ericka LeMaster, head of Institutional Commercial Real Estate Finance for Western Alliance. “His track record in complex transactions and long-standing industry relationships will directly benefit our clients as they navigate today’s market.”
Leivian brings 22 years of banking experience, including 15 years focused on CRE lending. He spent nearly two decades with National Bank of Arizona, where he originated and structured large, complex commercial real estate transactions. He works with investors, developers and owners on financing solutions, focusing on construction, value-add and term financing secured by industrial, office, multifamily, retail and self-storage assets across the U.S.

Leivian serves on the boards of the American Cancer Society Southwest Region, St. Francis Xavier Parish Finance Council and St. Francis Xavier Athletics Association. He is a member of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, and Valley Partnership in Phoenix. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics with a minor in business from the University of Arizona and received a graduate certificate from Pacific Coast Banking School in 2023.
