Mobile apps need to work perfectly before they reach users. They fail in the real world for one simple reason. They are tested on emulators, not actual devices. Screen sizes differ. OS versions fragment. Hardware behaves differently across manufacturers. That gap between the test environment and the real user’s device is where bugs survive and ship.

LambdaTest gave teams access to thousands of real iOS and Android devices in the cloud to address this.  Teams could access a pool of physical iOS and Android devices without maintaining their own hardware lab.

In January 2026, LambdaTest officially transformed into TestMu AI. However, it did not remove the real device cloud. In fact, it became the foundation of something bigger. TestMu AI is now positioned as the world’s first full-stack Agentic AI Quality Engineering platform, with the real device cloud at its core.

This article will provide what the real device cloud offers under TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest), and how it has evolved since its renaming. It will also discuss why that shift matters for teams testing mobile apps today.

What Is The LambdaTest Real Device Cloud?

Keeping hundreds of devices in-house would be too expensive for most teams. Screen sizes, OS versions, and hardware manufacturers fragment the Android ecosystem. More specifically, it was quite expensive and horribly difficult to maintain coverage across all of them.

LambdaTest provided teams with on-demand access to a cloud-hosted device farm with no burden of maintenance for infrastructure. All they have to do is log in and perform the test straight away. They could run both manual and automated tests, capture logs and session videos, and debug issues without the need to provision infrastructure and manage any hardware themselves.

What Did LambdaTest’s Real Device Cloud Offer?

The LambdaTest real device automation cloud gave teams access to real iOS and Android devices for testing iOS and Android apps and websites across 3,000+ environments hosted in the cloud.

For most teams, this solved a real problem. Maintaining a physical device lab is expensive. Devices get outdated. OS updates create compatibility gaps. LambdaTest removed that maintenance burden entirely.

The platform supported:

  • Live interactive testing on real iOS and Android devices
  • Automated test execution using Appium, Espresso, and XCUITest
  • Parallel test runs across multiple devices at once
  • Network simulation for 3G, 4G, and 5G conditions
  • Geolocation testing across 170+ countries
  • CI/CD integrations with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, and Azure DevOps

Why Did LambdaTest Transition To TestMu AI?

LambdaTest did not transform because something went wrong. It was renamed because the testing landscape changed faster than the original name could keep up with.

  • AI is generating code at speeds that traditional testing methods cannot match.
  • Release cycles that used to take weeks now take hours.
  • Development speed and quality are compromised by the earlier model, in which testers manually build test scripts and maintain automated suites.

“AI is truly transforming how software is developed and released,” stated Asad Khan, CEO and co-founder of TestMu AI. However, speed without quality is anarchy.

The automation testing platform started incorporating agentic AI into its workflow earlier in 2022, before the official name change. The renaming was declared publicly in January 2026. TestMu AI now positions itself as the world’s first full-stack

Agentic AI Quality Engineering platform, built to handle testing at the pace AI-assisted development demands. Here is what changed between LambdaTest and TestMu AI:

  • LambdaTest: Cloud infrastructure with strong browser and real device testing capabilities.
  • TestMu AI: Agentic AI platform that plans, creates, executes, and analyzes tests autonomously.
  • Key addition: KaneAI, the first end-to-end AI testing agent built specifically for high-speed quality engineering teams.

The name TestMu itself comes from the TestMu Conference, a developer community event that it has hosted since 2022. That community existed long before the transition. The rename simply made the name match the direction.
